GEBS IN MAKING MODERN!
"Making Modern" Graduate Design Exhibition
Showcasing design from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's (SAIC) department of Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Designed Objects (AIADO), Making Modern (SAIC Sullivan Galleries, June 13–July 25) brings together work by recent AIADO graduate students in the department's inaugural master's thesis exhibition. Included will be special projects featured during Milan's Salone Internazionale del Mobile in April, the highly regarded "Objects for the Age of Obama," "2000 Watt Living," and "The Expanding Classroom," which will be joined by "Objects That Entertain Us," a collaboration with Dupont Corian that will move to Making Modern following the annual NeoCon World's Trade Fair, held in Chicago's nearby Merchandise Mart from June 15–17.

Objects That Entertain Us
NeoCon World's Fair 2009
The Merchandise Mart Chicago, IL
Partnership with Dupont - Corian
Wanting to investigate the unexplored uses for Corian, Dupont has asked the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to First ask the question of what culture sees as entertainment, then explore those concepts using Corian as the primary material that connects people to experience.

The eleven interactive objects in the show use both digital and analog technologies, not only as an interface, but also to question the meaning of being entertained. Is it passive, or participatory? Is it a solo activity, or among many? Is entertainment constantly changing, or a constant through time? Does entertainment equal fun, or is it something deeper?

New ways to live and learn
FuoriSalone - Danese Milano
April 22 - 27
Via Canova 34-20145 Milan, Italy
Students from SAIC, in collaboration with Danese Milano and American designer Jonathan Olivares, examined contemporary behaviors and contexts of education, study, and learning. The resulting objects, designed with an eye toward commercialization, reflect our new ways of working and challenge existing typologies of furniture and accessories.
